Researcher at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Istituto per la Protezione Sostenibile delle Piante UOS Bari, Italy (former Nematologia Agraria Applicata ai Vegetali) .Research concerns biological control of plant parasitic nematodes through pathogens and other microbial antagonists. The microorganisms studied include bacteria of the Pasteuria group, and soil or acquatic fungi specialized in parasitizing or capturing nematodes. Models are also applied to test hypothesis concerning the ecology and evolution of parasitism or predation.
Research topics: modelling of host and parasite dynamics in naturally infested fields, antagonists biodiversity and host-parasite coevolution, investigation of nematode cuticle and microbial interfaces with Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), study of Pasteuria ultrastructure with Transmission and Scanning Electron Microscopy. Application of molecular methods for detection and study of rhizosphere fungi and bacteria associated to plant parasitic nematodes.
